Significant investments are being made in our network to roll out the latest 4G technology.
Our 4G network enhancements will improve call quality and increase speeds by up to 130% in certain locations. That’ll make downloading your Friday night movie a breeze. And improved call quality means less interruption when chatting to your family and friends.
In May 2020 we launched Voice over LTE, or VoLTE. This means that voice calls can be made over the 4G network, making for a much richer calling experience. It's essentially calling in HD. Whether you can use VoLTE will depend on your device, as some older devices aren't compatible.
WiFi Calling arrived in November 2020 to help supercharge your signal. This means you can now make calls and send texts when connected to WiFi in the UK.
What are we doing next to improve our network?
We’ve got some things planned to make sure you always get the best service possible:
Currently, not every cell site uses our 800MHz spectrum which is ideal for indoor coverage. After our network upgrade is complete, this spectrum will be available on all cell sites, enhancing indoor coverage.
We’ve started to roll out a 1400MHz frequency called L-Band to relieve congestion and improve speeds by up to 130%, depending on your device. Most new 4G devices will be compatible with 4G L-Band 1400 Mhz. See which devices are compatible.
