On 8 December, the British government announced dates by which all public 2G and 3G networks in the UK will be switched off - by 2033 at the latest. However, they welcome that some individual operators will switch off their networks, particularly their 3G networks, earlier than this date.

Why will the UK collectively switch off 2G & 3G by 2033?

By doing so, this frees up spectrum for 5G and beyond, creating exiting possibilities for our everyday lives and businesses.

What does this mean to me as a SMARTY customer?

SMARTY support the government’s objectives and are investing in our 5G network, as well as 4G enhancements.  We’re currently working through our plan for our 3G switch off and we’ll communicate that to customers in due course.
