Check if your device is compatible after 3G switch off

Following guidance from the UK government for networks to turn off their 3G service to focus on 4G and 5G, like other networks, SMARTY (who is powered by Three) will no longer have 3G service soon. This means better quality 4G and 5G service for all.

3G is being switched off from September 2024.

If your device is listed here, unfortunately, it will not be compatible with SMARTY.

Due to a technical issue with some mobile virtual network providers, including SMARTY, if your device is listed below, it will NOT work with SMARTY after the 3G switch-off.

It may work with some other networks. We’ve checked and your device should work with Three, our parent network.

To continue enjoying SMARTY's service, you'll need to upgrade to a device not listed below and with 4G-VoLTE capability.

If your device is listed below, we're really sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. Please get in touch with us if you need any support.

If your device is not in the list above, you can check if your device is compatible after 3G switch off, using the below 👇

I'm using an iPhone/iOS device

If you have an iPhone 6, or newer, your device will be compatible 💃

If your Apple phone is older than an iPhone 6, it may not be 4G-VoLTE compatible, you can check using the steps below:

  1. Go to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone

  2. Tap on ‘Mobile Data’

  3. Tap on ‘Mobile Data Options’

  4. Tap on ‘Voice & Data’

  5. If your device is compatible with 4G VoLTE or 5G, you will see either ‘4G’ or ’5G’ already selected.

I'm using an Android device

Most Android smartphones made in the past decade support 4G-VoLTE.

To make sure your device is compatible, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to ‘Settings’ on your Android phone

  2. Tap on ‘Network & Internet’

  3. Tap on ‘Mobile Network’

  4. If your device is compatible with 4G VoLTE or 5G, you will see either ‘4G’ or ’5G’ as an option under ‘Preferred network type’ or ‘Network mode’

I'm using another system

If you're not using an iOS or Android device, we have some other methods you can check to see if your device is 4G-VoLTE compatible.

IMEI Check

  1. Dial *#06# on your phone keypad to display your IMEI number. You can also find your IMEI number in your device settings, normally under General or About Phone

  2. Once you’ve got your IMEI number, go to www.imei.info*

  3. Enter your IMEI number and select Check.

  4. Look at the LTE section – it will display all the frequencies your phone can use.

  5. Your device must display 800. See below for an example 👇

GSM Arena

Sites such as GSM Arena*, provide device specifications.

*We are providing these links to help you check if your device is compatible, however, we do not manage the information on these sites and so cannot guarantee the information provided is complete or accurate. If your device does not appear on these sites but you believe it is compatible, then please check with the manufacturer.

If your device isn't in the list above, and you can see it has VoLTE capability from using the methods above, then you're all set 🚀
