Groups & eSIM

Groups make it easy to manage more than one SMARTY plan in one place. You can also choose whether each plan in your Group uses a physical SIM or an eSIM. This guide explains how eSIM works for Groups and what your options are.

SIM options in a Group

SMARTY offers two SIM types:

  • Physical SIM
A traditional SIM card that is posted to you

  • eSIM
A digital SIM that you download straight to your phone

Groups allow you to mix physical SIMs and eSIMs across different plans.

Joining a Mix and Match Group πŸ’«

Group owner

If you are setting up a Mix and Match Group as the owner:

  • You can join SMARTY with a physical SIM or an eSIM

  • If you start with a physical SIM, you can swap to an eSIM

  • SIM swaps can be done in your SMARTY dashboard or via the SMARTY contact centre

Group members

If you are joining an existing Mix and Match Group:

  • You can join with a physical SIM or an eSIM

  • You can swap from a physical SIM to an eSIM once your plan is active

  • SIM swaps can be done in your SMARTY dashboard or via the SMARTY contact centre

Nicknamed accounts

Nicknamed accounts in a Mix and Match Group work slightly differently:

  • They can only be added with a physical SIM

  • Once the physical SIM arrives, it can be swapped to an eSIM

  • SIM swaps can be done in your SMARTY dashboard or via the SMARTY contact centre

Everyone Unlimited Groups πŸš€

If your Group is on an Everyone Unlimited plan:

  • Group owners and members must join with a physical SIM

  • Once active, you can swap to an eSIM

  • All SIM swaps must be completed via the SMARTY contact centre

  • Swapping SIMs in the dashboard is not available on this plan

Switching between SIM types

  • Most Group customers can switch between a physical SIM and an eSIM in their dashboard

  • Everyone Unlimited Groups are the only exception

  • Your phone must support eSIM to use one
